It really has a lot to do with the BIOS more than anything else. Boards with
buggy BIOS'es may not report the correct amount of memory for linux. I also
think older BIOS'es are not able to report > 64meg ram. There also may be
other issues at work here too.
This happens mostly on older computers (pentiums and older) although I wouldn't
be suprised if even a few newer computers screw it up.
I have 96 meg ram, and it is dectected fine on my computer too :-)
