Easiest way is to use a screwdriver.....
better way is to use fuser -vm /dev/cdrom and either kill the process using
the cdrom or su to the user using the cdrom and release it. 
(Or use fuser -km /dec/cdrom to immediately kill the process(es) accessing the
cdrom)
