Hi guys,

As the title says, I've recently acquired an S400
which I've been trying to put on our gateway box
(hopefully to also be our print server). However,
there seems to be very little official support for
this printer.

I've tried integrating a couple of drivers I found
(.upp files) into the various RedHat files. It mostly
seems to work, but the debug file /tmp/filter.debug
(along with debugging stuff from a couple of other
scripts) produces the following:

Desired print format is ps
Paper size is a4
A form feed will not be sent.
Magic is | PostScript document text
conforming at level 2.0|
Type of file is INPUT-to-ps
Best path of depth is cat - | ps-to-printer.fpi
Unrecoverable error: typecheck in .putdeviceprops

(my apologies for the line wraps in inappropriate
places :(

This appears to be from one of the programs called by
ps-to-printer.fpi (a shell script), probably mpage. It
certainly looks like a fatal error.

Has anyone had any luck with this printer? Would
something like apsfilter be worth a try?

The printer seems to be detected properly, as cat
/proc/parport/0/* yields this:

CLASS:PRINTER;
MODEL:S400;
MANUFACTURER:Canon;
DESCRIPTION:Canon S400;
COMMAND SET:BJL,BJRaster3,BSCC,TXT01,BJScan2;
 lp
base:	0x378
irq:	7
dma:	none
modes:	SPP
7

I'm also fairly sure the printing subsystem in general
works, because a HP Deskjet 670C worked fine.

Any ideas, anyone?

TIA
Andrew
