I don't think ping times are all that precise. I've seen people give
ping times for a Windows 9x box and a Linux box on the same network and
the Windows ping time was always lower. To some people this suggests
that Windows is faster or has better networking but the reason I was
given was that Windows had a longer timeslice and so the numbers on this
machine were getting rounded down signficantly. This probably isn't
true for W2k but the fact remains that ping times aren't anywhere near
as precise as the numbers appear.
