What does that have to do with sound? Has somebody added sound support
(aside from the bell) to X without telling me? That would be nice.

 My unconfigured, non-functional woody partition (no X, must try again),
has the device nodes present, but what else is needed for a manual config?
  I guessed it just needed a modprobe, and parameters in
/etc/modules.conf, but I see Debian does thing differently.  Looks like
you need to create something like /etc/modutils/audio, and run
update-modules. Right so far?  Anything else needed? A better way?
