There may be a setting which allows you to select what country you're in.
Many countries have different dial tones. Finding out modem 'AT' commands
doesn't seem to be as easy as it used to be. It may be as simple as entering
'ATB0' which tells it that you're using a 'CCITT' exchange rather than a
'Bell' one.
If you can't set a modem init string then most modems allow you to save the
modem settings to non-volatile memory. I think the command is 'AT&Y0' but I
honestly can't remember.
