New version Mandrake 8.1 from Linux Club doesn't find the CD drive, doesn't offer "driver" and I do not know how Linux will let me get around this (non-IDE drive). Any tips on how I resolve this in the distro (ie not the hardware?).

It will be there BUT probably not easily found. As others have suggested you
need to look at the sbpcd module. The driver doesn't seem to need any
parameters so it should be easy enougth to load.

If you still have the older Mandrake logs arround looking and a kernel boot
may give you info about setting for the device that could otherwise be hard to
find.

Yours Tony.
