Newbies are sometimes "ridiculed" if they can't be bothered making any
effort to think for themselves.  In general I don't think newbies get
ridiculed on this list simply for asking easy questions.

You're assuming that these people are going to devote a lot of effort to
answering the same questions over and over again.  It sounds far too
much like helpdesk to me.

Why does Linux have to get into the "mainstream" at all?  It's far too
mainstream for many people as it is.  Illiterate users are fine but the
first thing they need to appreciate is that they will need to make an
effort.  Freedom doesn't come without a price.

For goodness sake, please don't have people posting to this list with
one line replies saying "yes" or "no".  If people are keen on having the
list then please contact the organisers directly.
