There are several.
If you just want to read them, there is one called "mswordview" that
converts word documents into html, so you can then view them with your web
browser.  "catdoc" is similar, except it only strips out the text.

If you wish to edit the files too, use something like StarOffice, which
can read & write (amongst others) word & excel files.
