You could check that the CDROM is an IDE drive and if so hook it straight onto an IDE port instead of using the sb16 card interface.

In Redhat 6.0 when searching for the media type to install from you selected Other CDROM and then Panasonic\Soundblaster and there were no problems. Now however the install program aks me for a drvier disk, something I dont have as I bought the CDROM and Sound card as a set at a swap mart. I keep looking round on the net for drivers but to no avail. (except one set which dont work...)
