[plug] inittab respawn

Hi all I have entered a line in /etc/inittab
Redhat 6.1

ma:3:respawn:/usr/magicadm/sbin/mgrnt &

The run level is correct
the script works correctly
However when the task dies it does not restart
I have tried issueing telinit Q 
but it still does not start from inittab 
can anybody tell me what may be wrong
