I was going to say: do an strace on init, see if it gets the signal from
mgrnt dieing, and what happens next.  But the strace(1) man page says:

       On Linux, exciting as it would be, tracing the  init  pro­
       cess is forbidden.

Bummer :(    Any alternatives?
