The RENDER extension is part of XFree4; it allows fonts to be
rendered with antialising (a smoothing effect) and is used by all
QT/KDE applications.

To get it working, you'll need to upgrade to XFree4 and install
some fonts that support antialising (such as TrueType fonts).
