[plug] Problems sending and receiving mail through my Linux firewall machine

I have two RH7 linux boxes setup on my netork.  One firewall/server and one 
workstation.
I am using squid, and ssh, and kppp on the server and run it at init level 3.
On the workstation I have the gateway address as the server address on dev 
eth0.
I can bring up Netscape or Konqueror on the workstation and access the web 
with no problems.  However Kmail will not send or receive any mail messages.
I can bring the server to level 5 and run Kmail with no problems, which is 
how I am sending this email.
Do I have to setup a mail server on the server box to allow me to access my 
mail from the workstation?
