Hi,
Could anybody advise me what steps i require to take to get my somewhat
old Matrox Millenium (1) up and running. I originally used a Diamond
Stealth 32mb card but after upgrading to LM8.0 found the card unsupported
and had to get my hands on another graphics card. The Matrox Millenium was
according to XFree86's web page a well supported graphics card capable of
working with both current versions of X 3.3.6 and 4.1.0. The install
process went well up untill Xconfig , Everytime i o.k'd the chosen screen
res ...FADE TO BLACK with a core message stating
** ERROR ** XF86_FBDev died at 0:0: ( Explicit kill, machine shut-down )
or words to that effect
I have been to both the Xfree and Matrox web pages, which in there defence
have quite a lot of information on the subject but it is stiil not simple
enough for me to grasp ? Only having played with Linux for the past 6 months
i am still coming to terms with it all.
Would i be right in saying that if i upgrade the bios of the card, there is
a possibility i will not have to touch the kernel ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris
