[plug] Linux firewall: update

Hi guys,

Thanks for your various responses. Dad has said that
he will at least _try_ it if I set up all up. A
start... So for the moment, a few minor hurdles (in
order of "unknown" factor):

1) ADSL modem.
The modem which WiredCity provided us with was (from
memory, not there atm) a Dynalink ALE070. This
connects to the USB port, rather than somewhere like a
dedicated NIC. Has anyone had any experience setting
up ADSL modems in general, and USB ones in particular?
Any pointers, docs, etc would be appreciated. It's
_possible_ I may be able to ring up WiredCity and
exchange it for an NIC one, which would be much
neater.

2) Network quotas.
The account we have with WiredCity allows for
1Gb/month free traffic, which works out to (say) 30Mb
each per day. Question is, does anyone know of any
programs to enforce that quota? I'm talking the actual
network bandwidth, download only, per static IP on the
LAN. I'm planning to use ipac for the accounting, and
I thought about writing a script to keep track of it,
and send a warning email when it's close, and maybe
remove that person's masquerading rule when they go
over (and restore it the next day). Any easier ways
rather than rolling my own (which I don't mind doing,
it's just slower) ?

I promise to create a mini-HOWTO and post it on my
site sometime when it's all done :)

TIA
Andrew
