That is truly, truly lame..... Ive come across stupidity and
ignorance in govt IT before (Ive done some work at the Dept of ? and the
dept of ? :) but this is pretty stupid. The admin must be a complete loser.

I was doing one project, sort of a data-mining proof of concept, and
I setup this funky little Access Frontend (they wanted access, who am I to
complain?) onto an Oracle backend. When we went to show it to the big
bosses, halfway thru the show our network connection disappeared (hmmm,
strange that). When I remarked that it appeared Id lost the ODBC connection
to the Oracle database, the semi-tech savvy chief said 'You have an ODBC
connection to the Oracle database?'... I said 'Sure.... why do you ask?' and
he said 'I was told by IT that setting up ODBC connections would cost us
several million dollars' and I said 'no, just 5 minutes or so'.... They guy
started writing the list of 'Who I am going to fire after this meeting'
right in front of us, asking who had stood in our way to get the prototype
done (it took me 3 weeks to get a pc, and 5 to get a phone) :)

	But yeh, government sucks :)

It is a basically a proxy server for TN3270 running (I presume) on a
Windows NT box, that is only accessible via a Win32 plug-in or
ActiveX
Control. This issue is the tax office all over again. You'd almost
think the government accepts Microsoft's line that open source is
	un-American(/Australian).
