[plug] Kernal Compile 2..4.0 ppp

Hi all I am trying to compile a new 2.4.0 Kernal 
and for some reason it will not compile in ppp iether modular or internal
I have tried make menuconfig and make xconfig
I have complied to all the requirements in the kernal documentation upgradeing all the required files includeing bind and pppd
I have checked and rechecked that ppp is in the make file
I have compiled about 5 times
any ideas
