Okay, Here's my 5 cents.. There's kernel options
CONFIG_IP_ADVANCED_ROUTER
and CONFIG_IP_PNP that seem to cause this sort of behaviour.

I was having very similar problems, but with HTTP as well as HTTPS Web
sites.
