[plug] Differences between xfree and windows

Ahh, the responsiveness. By this do you mean that it takes longer to close a
window down or to minimise (if you've got a copy of KDE 2.2.x around, please
install my team's language module (en_GB) so that it actually does say
'minimise' instead of 'minimize') an application?

There may be an option around in an X app somewhere (I'm not really a GUI
tweaking freak, so I'm by no means an expert on such matters) that'll allow
you to change a time delay between clicking on 'close' and the actual
closure of the window itself (try having a look in the Control Centre
('Centre' also being in our language module).

For a personal window decoration, I certainly recommend IceWM (I may cause
an uproar saying that!). It definitely looks snazzy in comparison to the
sodding dull win9x look and looks fantastic when bordering an XMMS
visualisation.

There may also simply be a problem of having too many useless startup
services with not enough RAM to go around. I think Mandrake might come with
a startup services util if I can remember correctly, get rid of any sort of
firewall protection or email services that remain un-utilised and compile
your kernel.

As for SOF running 'shonkily' (to use a cool word), it simply sounds as if
your graphical drivers are ont properly installed in the Open GL/Mesa 3D
side of things. There are plenty of howtos around for this subject, you
shouldn't have any problems getting help online.

seeya then! :)
