Mike,

I have just brought an XP chip but haven't installed 'Linux on the box yet.
(Lack of time not lack of effort).

Will keep you posted on the resu8lts over the weekend.

Mike

Subject: [plug] Processor restrictions for linux ?

Hi again,

I've heard all sorts of rumours about some processor restriction for
linux - related possibly to that AMD issue with Win 95 where a faster
processor caused some IO problem due to a windows delay loop...
(as well as 486 vs Pentiums all history now)

I've seen some discussion on this list of processor issues but I
take it there is nothing definitive regarding the more recent
processors such as the Athlon 'XP',

I take it that this 'XP' version is a marketing bandwagon re microsoft
and has no probs with linux or does it actually have some useful
core additions that linux has a use for re multimedia applications,
few that they are...

If no-one has anything negative to say about the Athlon 'XP' then I
suppose it should be OK (socket 8 - I think) ?

Rgds

Mike
