Just putting together
thunderbird 1.4Ghz
abit kt7-raid
2x60Gbyte 7200rpm IBM drives (I saw the failure rate 2hrs AFTER I bought
em!)
750Mbyte ram
300w pwrsup in new dual fan case
+ lotsa bits I already have (memory, CDRW, CD , Zip, LS120, sound ...)

Still well under $1500 so far, but my spare network card is dead ...
Most bits from Austins, MB from PLE (www.ple.com.au)
Applied power last night and set up the bios, will be installing
Mandrake 8.1 tonight ...

For Linux, memory is cheap so go for the max!

* When I have done shuffling the hardware between mine and the kids
machines, I will have a 200Mhz (K6 or cyrix, take your pick) machine
complete with approx 4 Gbytes disk space left over (will still be in
full working order with OS installed and running) - how much is such a
beast worth second hand?
