My Gateway went up in smoke, and while I was waiting for the parts to
repair it, I removed the drive and popped it into an NEC laptop..
XF4 recognised the new graphics chipset and worked with no tweaking,
All I had to do was compile a kernel module for the new sound hardware
and I was off and racing..
There was a difference in the way the two bios autodetected the hard disk
and thus I could not re-lilo the drive. All I did was look into an old
syslog, find the geometry the drive had previously been detected at in
the old machine, and feed that manally into the new bios.. EASY as pie..

When my gateway came back, I swapped the drive back and was off an racing.

Made my office counterparts with thier windows laptops very jealous. :p)
