[plug] Firewall testing

I have a M8 desktop box sitting behind an e-smith server/firewall box on the 
dialup a/c.

If I want to test for ports open to the net, can I use the linux tools 
pointing at the dynamic IP from the M8 box?

Or do I need to access another linux box on the net (from the dark side of 
the firewall) to do the testing?
