I am not sure what you mean by akin, but upgrades of Redhat have been smooth
for me.
I am at rh72 now and have not had any "burning heaps" in a long time.

No I don't, but it has invoked a question:

Are the versions of Red-Hat akin to the releases of Debian? Can one
somewhat smoothly upgrade throught them?

I have never touched a Red-Hat install in my life after the first time I
tried to install it about 4 years ago, it crashed to the ground in a burning
heap and I didn't know enough about Linux to force it to comply ... that's
what started me using Debian :)
