Interesting comment at the bottom of the SiS-DRI page

It seems pretty splendid to me that X should give higher framerates under 
Linux than directly vandalising the hardware (DirectX) does under Windows, 
_AND_ that using a driver written from scratch using limited and broken 
documentation!

Warcraft 3 does this under (CVS) WINE as well, and also runs faster than under 
WINEX (which is emulating DirectX).
