[plug] What is proper way to downgrade GCC back to 2.95

I have a redhat 7.3 system running gcc 2.96. I have a few programs which
will not compile with 2.96 and I want to 'downgrade' to gcc 2.95.2
Before I try anything and really mess up the home system, I wanted to ask
for some inputs from PLUG members.
Is the process as simple as 'rpm -e gcc.2.0.6.xxxxxx' and then re-install
the gcc 2.95 or is there more to it.

Before you say it, I know it would probably be easier on Debian with their
'dpkg downgrade' option.

Phil
