I'm not so sure about videos, but there are treasure troves of
information to be had though it's not always obvious to newbies where to
find it - it was a year before I really started discovering the huge
amounts of documentation about. Documentation though does tend to be
specialised and fragmentary in my opinion.
For an all-round Linux resource download the Linux Cookbook. It a bit
Debian specific even though it tries not to be, but it does focus on the
nitty-gritty stuff that intimidates newbies and does it in a way which
is reasonably easy to comprehend. I wish it had been around when I was
starting fresh into Linux, it would have saved me a lot a time. Go to
http://tldp.org/LDP/linuxcookbook/ to get either the html or pdf
version. Also browse the page http://tldp.org/guides.html. It's not
newbie specific but you may find something of interest there anyway.
I can't emphasize enough though how important it is to check out your
installation for documentation. Most distros come with reams of info
which is really useful. If you can't find it in your menus then check
out the directory /usr/share/doc/ You might be surprised at what you
find here. When I started out with Linux I was starting out with
computing too (6 weeks of win98 was enough for me) so I was pretty
clueless. It took ages before I stumbled outside of /home/sol and found
out what was going on, including the piles of documentation to be had.
Hope progress is quicker for you than it was for me. :-)
