i dunno about a matrix distro, i'm not all that sure what would be
different about a matrix distro to an ordinary distro?
i do reckon it would be fun to make a new distro though, something a
little less drab than debian, and a little more spiffy than slackware.
i'm in the process of writing new init scripts, i love the bsd ones with
slack, but, something with colour. redhat and suse always look prettier
there than slack and debian. but, insted of a dull red "failure" and a
green "done" what about "alsa sound sounding crisp this morning sir!"
and "code red! code red! all hands man your keyboards! we have a
faliure!" "send mail, primed and ready to send!" "Shhhh! SHH is
listening!" "GPM Pointing in the right direction"
i was thinking then, what about a darwin distro? although i would
proberly go to hell (Mr Tulliver thinks lawyers were made by Old Harry)
but then I noticed Darwin x86 definatly doesnt work with AMD or VIA
(acorrding to the readme) I'm not sure why they don't call it Darwin
Intel(TM)
Or what about a HURD distro? for something different? every man and his
dog makes his own linux distro, but why not lets do something new? HURD
nearly works well, i mean, i don't think we could play unreal tornament
on it just yet, but i reckon we could make it boot.
i'm not entirely sure what a matrix distro would be like? apart from
scrapping X, and changing your console font to green wingdinds that you
type vertically, i must admit that would be cool, perhaps a little user
unfriendly, but definatly cool.
I am serious, i think it would be fun to make a distro a little
different from the rest, even if it is the worst distro in the world
with a cult following of 2 or 3 people, but would definatly be fun. i
was thinking about it myself, but not with a matrix theme.
let me know what you were thinking for a matrix distro. perhaps we could
make some sort of interchangeble distro. once you have a distro you have
to keep doing security updates, maybe i can do my dumb one and you can
do your matrix one but we can make the packages interchangable?
Oh and does anyone have Solaris 8? I desperatly need it for Intro to
Literature. Ok, not really. But it's taking foreevveerr to download from
aarnet.
