[plug] Remote control

If you are considering VNC, I would use TightVNC no matter what.. even on a
lan the performance is much better.

One of my clients ship a VNC Server it on each Windows desktop and whack it
in Startup, its fantastic for remote help desk support as when the helpdesk
people attach to it using VNC client the user can see what they are doing.

On your XP box start the default 'telnet' server service from within the
administrative tools. You can then telnet into the machine (command line
only). Administrators have access by default, other users will need to be
added to the 'TelnetClients' group if memory serves.

That's the only text way I know of - the other (graphical) options you have
are:

VNC: You'll need a server on your XP box and a client on your linux box.
VNC isnt bad, you can IP-restrict allowed connections in the registry for
extra security. If you are on a modem, look for TightVNC instead.

Rdesktop: One of a couple of remote-desktop programs that run on linux and
can log onto WinNT/2000/XP machines like a terminal client. No need for
extra programs to be installed on your XP box, just enable Remote Desktop
connections.
