Unless you have already got lots of data and configuration setup on the 
potato box, I think a fresh install using a mini woody cd would be a lot 
easier.

You dont have to worry about getting the X from 3.x to 4.x, or going to a 
2.4.x kernel. Its just right from the start.

What I did was obtain a mini woody iso, burned it then installed it.. Then do 
the update/upgrade on the ucc LAN connection. Look in wonder as over a 
hundred meg of stuff is updated very fast.

The mini woody iso is ~ 180MB, or would prolly be available from someone on 
the list or LinuxWA. I'll burn you a copy if you want for the cost a cd. I'm 
in Kwinana, but I venture through Freo from time to time.

IF you use a mini woody, you can have KDE/Gnome/WMaker etc etc up over the 
weekend.
