Leon

Apology accepted, although you watered it down somewhat in trying to justify
previous points you made.

This what I said in my original e-mail:

> I would be obliged if anyone could give me an example using qsort.

> I have read the man pages but I am obviously substituting the wrong
> information because I keep getting parse error messages.

Note: nothing about a fully worked solution ... not even a specification of
the task I was working on.

I am well aware of the dictionary AND academic meaning of "cheat" - at
Murdoch it is explained ad nauseum at the beginning of every unit outline,
and as I say all our Linux oriented staff are on this list. I am also a
graduate of UWA. I don't know what you do at Curtin.

> you could technically be accused of cheating.

Bullshit! .... it was a lab class for God's sake, not an assignment or an
exam ... you know, where 25 INTERNAL students crowd into a room and work in
pairs with a tutor to answer all their questions, and externals battle on as
best they can.

As a former Chairman of Directors of a Public Company when I was in Perth
employing over 100 staff including medical specialist doctors, system
administrators, and having nearly 50 graduates on staff, I have been
described as a lot of things, but "silly" does not ring a bell.

> difficult unless the tutor is easily available.

When my tutor is available I do not post questions to the list, I send them
to him, and he does not regard that as "cheating".

I am glad that you are not implying that because if you re-read my request
you will see that all I asked was for someone to give me an example of the
use of a command ... one command in a two page program I was writing. I
didn't ask for a fully worked solution - in fact I did not tell PLUG what
the lab task was or what the program was all about, just that I wanted to
try using qsort but could not understand the syntax. If the bloody man
pages gave examples I would not have had to ask PLUG or anyone else they do
sometimes, but rarely.

If you don't support your own new Members why should the schools think the
will get a better deal than they get from from Microsoft?

We haven't learned about procmail yet --- but PLEASE don't tell me!! ... I
couldn't stand the embarrassment, disgrace, and humiliation of it all.
After my exam on Thursday I will be making the 550 km trip to Perth and
might be able to drop into campus and find out about procmail then, if any
of the lecturers are still around.

Hey, if I sound upset, I'm not - just stirring you up! Just to show there
aren't any hard feelings, send your address offline and I will get a couple
of my cousins on my mother's side to call around with a peace offering - Don
Giovanni and Enrico Rossi ... they don't speak English too good but I assure
you they are not gunna burna downa you house.

Cheers,

James
