[plug] ls in colour & terminal size

OK, so I'm posting an awful lot recently :( well thats because i'm new to deb.
1. Were are the files for changing the defualts for things. I wish to have 
ls automaticly display out put in color, I don't like having to type in 
'--colour=auto' all the time.

2. Can I change the res of my terminals. i.e. more columns and lines, (like 
about the size of 800px x 600px, I know text terminals are in sizes 
determined by lines and columns)
