There is a commercial software at http://www.vmware.com and you can get a demo.

Give it a try. A Pentium MMX 266MHz and 144MB RAM it is too slow to be able to work with eg Windows 2000 as guest os on GNU/Linux

There is an open source / free software project at http://www.plex86.org Unfortunately I had some problems with a simple configuration file and did not run it myself.
