Smoothwall is by design a standalone selfcontained firewall.  

It requires it's own dedicated box, anything from i486 on is ok. Is easy to
install and maintain and is supported with update patches.  

If you have the CD I would recommend that you go to the homepage and get the
doc's first.

Running here on an old 586 built from scrap for the last few weeks. Best
single thing I ever did ---in linux that is--- :-)
