I once went to a techie meeting were you had to introduce yourself and then
admit something stupid you'd done! eg a made-up example 'I spent 6 hours
trying to get some hardware working until I discovered it wasn't plugged
in'.  It gets people introduced and is also entertaining :)

I do agree that name tags would be useful.
