Intel fudged the CPU model number bits for the P4, IIRC instead of being the
next in sequence it read zero plus some not-defined-as-CPU-model bits. When
older 2.2 kernels ran across this, they suicided because they didn't know how
to deal with a `less than 386' processor. A kernel option to not suicide
(maybe cpuisreally=386|486|586) would have been thoughtful, but such is life.
For most people, RH 6.2 and kernels of that age are water under the bridge.
