From: "Fred A. Miller" <fmiller at lightlink.com>

"Taking matters into their own hands, 10 junior high schools from Taipei
and Ilan counties will begin an effort to break the Microsoft monopoly
on campuses by forming the Free Software Teaching Coalition starting Aug. 1.

Meanwhile, Fu Ying Junior High School has decided to replace the
Microsoft systems initially installed in its 200 computers with Linux
and Openoffice, becoming the first school in Taiwan to use Linux."

Mike H (BCC'ed), you might like to point out to the powers that be that this
kind of thing is happening in Argentina, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, here
Taiwan, and many of the other countries surrounding us; at this rate, if you
coloured in OSS-in-Education countries on a map, Australia will soon form a
conspicuously isolated patch of backwardness athwart Oceania.

Cheers; Leon
