[plug] Linux & Voice Modems

Yes, I think I've asked this before, but now I'm giving up on ADSL ever 
reaching my suburb any time soon, and looking at upgrading my crappy 33.6k 
modem.

Has anyone had any experience with Linux and Voice Modems, and can recommend 
good brands/models? Also, any I should steer clear of?

Are voice modems only serial? Or are there decent USB voice modems supported 
by Linux? (It's been a while since I looked at the technology of the lowly 
modem, and what Linux supports...)

(Why voice? Because I'm hoping to play with Answering-machine type 
functionality eventually...)
