[plug] Riping cd --> ogg

Greetings,

I'm on the organising comittee for a youth music competition (similar to
battle of the bands) called Ampfest: clash of the bands. 

This is a joint initive of many local councils. See the website for more

Basically bands have submitted their demo CD's and I want to rip their
songs ( legal by contract with them) from the CD and put them on the
website as ogg format.

What is the best (free) software + method to do this?

I'm using Debian Woody ( 2.4.18-bf2.4)
