[plug] [newbie alert] trouble starting X

Hi list,

A friend just installed linux and gets the following when
typing startx

       Fatal server error
       Add screen/screeninit failed for driver 0

       XI0 : fatal I0 error 104 (connection reset by peer) on x server "0.0"
       After 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

I know its not much to go on -- I presume that an Xserver was instaled when 
he did the installation.
