I recommend Linux too.

Bugbear, Opaserv, Klez etc have passed me by with no
effect and I can't remember the last time the computer
crashed.

If you really, really need to use MS Word or Excel
(why??!) there is a product called Crossover-Office
that lets them run under Linux (see
http://www.codeweavers.com).  Otherwise StarOffice or
OpenOffice are good alternatives.

My ISP doesn't kick me off despite periods of
inactivity either! (15 minutes away from the PC is all
I get under Windows)
