Has anyone seen the following before? It has happened to my twice on
different machines, both running Debian with Gnome and Sawfish from stable
and testing.
X decides to crash for some reason and once it returns, almost every dot
file in the home directory of that user is zero length - so every setting is
gone. I know sawfish keeps window geometry and task info in such files
on-the-fly and would expect that file to be affected by a crash, but things
like the .vimrc, the .ssh directory, mozilla (that was not running) and
every single thing to do with Gnome or sawfish are also affected. All
normal files in the directory are unaffected and file system checks don't
show anything amiss.
I don't know what caused the crashes. X just hit 100 cpu for a while and
then bailed on its own accord, all I had open was 5 gnome-terminal windows.
*madly reconfiguring*
