If you decide that Linux is the way to go, you may want to consider 
LTSP. I'm using it here at work, and it works very well indeed. Get a 
monster server (actually, not-so-monster should be fine, say a P4-3GHz 
with a gig of RAM... don't know how well it'd multi-task though. I'm 
using a Dual 2.4GHz Xeon, and the load average tends to sit at "stuff 
all") and some cheap single board micro-ATX PCs. Nice :-)

Of course, like everything else you should test and make sure it fits 
your needs.

One of my housemates is a Hotmail user, and he finds that Mozilla barely 
works with Hotmail (surprise, surprise) - this sort of thing may be an 
issue for a 'net cafe.
