More or less. The most popular (read: the most talked about) is the
TiVo. There are others around. Even some "almost ready" open source
ones. In a nutshell, a PC with a video-in feed and a hard-disk to record
onto. The TiVo will also do things like let you watch a program whilst
it is being recorded, so you can miss the start of the show and catch-up
by skipping ads. There are also systems for figuring out what you like
to watch and the list goes on.

Being now in a place where TV reception is poor at best and no longer
having access to a satellite feed (given that Optus just moved B3, took
my service with it and left all the good stuff at the old location on
C1), I'm kind of actually doing more without.
