Which, incidentally has probable "prior art" in that the technique of 
overloading directory entries was commonplace in DEC land ( e.g. 
All-in-One ) to permit really long, complex names that simulated a filing 
system to humans, but could work with "dumb computers" that only 
understood permitted character sets.

And since the directory handling ideas were cribbed from CPM, 
anyway...........
