[plug] GTK upgrade

 Good morning all,
 In the process of my endevours to get an Epson scanner 1260 (usb) to
 work I find that the GTK software installed on Debian Sarge needs to
 be updated to GTK2 whatever, the question is   GTK2 backward compatable 
 if not what changes wil be need to be made & the best way to achieve
 this.
