Have an xSeries 235 sitting a metre from my desk at work at the moment 
that I've been working on.  I can definitely confirm that those suckers 
are fairly noisey, not surprising really since that its got 6 large fans 
and two redundant power supplies with fans in them also.  At least its a 
low pitched wooshing sound and not a high pitched whining... that'd 
drive you really batty if it was high pitched.

Very nice servers though.
