I suggest forgetting the symlinks, adding these entries to
/target/etc/lilo.conf , then running ;
  lilo -v -r /target

        initrd=/boot/initrd.img-2.4.22-1-k7
        label=2422
        read-only

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-bf2.4

How did booting the Woody CD with "rescbf24 root=/dev/hda2" go?
