Just the usual drivers required for this machine, and most of the
netfilter stuff compiled in. I'm going to change most of the netfilter
stuff to modules now.

I tried both, same error.

I might try doing it manually rather than using make-kpkg this time.

http://www.ultralinux.org/faq.html#q_4_8 says to use "make vmlinux"
is that still valid for 2.4?
